On Status Quo

So I was contemplating on my last post while I was on the bus today and I’ve come to question the want for change in certain individuals and groups. Can I equate want for change to satisfied with the status quo?

For some reason, the current multitude I see on the roads appear to be giving a half-assed shot at adopting the western-styled consumerist way of life. Is it because they haven’t tasted how it feels like? I look at how China turns more and more consumerist by the day as local businesses flourish and more and more turn obese. Such a change in the very mentality of the masses is present because of their exposure to the western way of life, right? Going by such a thesis, I propose that India doesn’t appear “developed” by western standards because that very multitude on the streets I speak of, haven’t felt like what it is to be “developed”.

Deadlocks on the road and related rants

If you’re in Bangalore, it isn’t uncommon to sight deadlocks on the road which you *know* could’ve been avoided if people who get into those weren’t as stupid or whatever it is that motivates them into annoying you. This is the classical deadlock example you’ll find in a undergrad course on computer operating systems.

Utter disregard for one’s own time and (life) and others’ is, again, not uncommon in overpopulated areas in a largely immature country like India.

One of my contacts in my jabber roster has the following status message:

“Japanese proverb : If I can do it, you can too; if nobody can do it, someone must do it.

Indian version : If I can do it, let someone else do it; if nobody can do it, then just let it be.”

I don’t know about the authenticity of either - but he pretty much gets it right.

Today, I happened to notice a bus stop as the bus I was in passed by it. There was garbage littered near the bus stop and people didn’t really mind it. They stood right there as if it didn’t exist. So blissful to not be bothered by things so easily. If only people could do that with other things in life our society might as well show a decrease in the intolerance levels associated with things like religion.
